iOS loses WiFi when device sleeps

My iPad has had problems with disconnecting form the house Wifi when it goes to sleep. which is annoying as things don’t update when that happens. Found this list of steps elsewhere, and it seems to work for me, so I’ll pass it on that info.

1) Turn device on, with Wifi on and connect to Wifi your having problems with. If the device supports mobile data, turn it off for now.

2) Turn off the device (hold the sleep button and then swipe to turn off)

3) Wait 30 seconds

4) Turn it back on

5) After the home screen loads, but BEFORE you reconnect to Wifi, reset the device (which means holding the home and sleep buttons down and keep holding until you see the Apple logo come back up).

That should be it. After I did all this, my Wifi stayed connected after the iPad went to sleep.

Open Letter to Tim Cook

Earlier today I wrote an email to Tim Cook of Apple.  Not that I expect him to reply, but one NEVER knows.  He does the same thing Steve Jobs did - which is occasionally reply to a random email sent by a customer, so I thought what the heck.   Here's … [Continue reading]

Night Ranger Now

A friend of mine on Facebook had a post about the band Dream Theatre and it made me wonder. Have any of my music friends checked out any of the last three Night Ranger albums? 2011's "Somewhere in California" 2014's "High Road" 2017's "Don't Let … [Continue reading]

Perpetual Outrage

This article isn't really about Black Sabbath.  Don't tune out right away. I've been a heavy metal fan almost as long as I've lived music.  I like almost all kinds of music, but I tend to gravitate to the heavier stuff.  I was drawn at an early ag … [Continue reading]

How to Watch Babylon 5

It was announced on May 16, 2018 that the old Sci-Fi classic Babylon 5 will be coming to Amazon Prime. This is very good. It is an excellent show, one that compelled both Lynn and myself. Lynn cries at TV all the time. I, however, do not. The final … [Continue reading]

Operation: Mindcrime Turns 30

You know how you have those desert island albums - the ones that you would take with you if you couldn't listen to anything else?  Well, that's Operation: Mindcrime by Queensryche.  In fact, I'd go further than that, it is my favorite album by any b … [Continue reading]

Why I prefer Youtube TV

Back in 2010, I lost my job, and was unemployed for longer than I cared to be.  During the belt tightening that always happens during times like that, I canceled Cable TV.  I wrote about that elsewhere on this blog, so I won't get into that in this p … [Continue reading]

Happy 25th to Monster Bash

In the earlier years of 3D Realms, when we were known simply as Apogee Software, we were known for many popular games in the scroller genre.  Duke Nukem, Bio Menace, Hocus Pocus, Commander Keen, and many others.  But today we're here to shed a little … [Continue reading]

The Final Cut is 35

I'm going to write a little about an album that turns 35 years old today (Mar 21, 2018).  Originally came out when I was still in High School (!!) - Mar 21, 1983.  I'm speaking of "The Final Cut" by Pink Floyd.  It was the final Floyd album with Ro … [Continue reading]

Happy 40th, Blake’s 7

Forty years ago today (Jan 2, 1978) the original episode of Blake's 7 was released. 40 years. Where the heck has time gone. This is a show that was the definition of "low budget". It didn't get much more low budget than B7. However, if you could … [Continue reading]
