Apple & TiVo, sitting in a tree, M-E-R-G-I-N-G
I’ve been a TiVo user for about 5 years now. I’ve loved my TiVo for a really long time. Got a lot of my family and a bunch of my friends on board. It’s a wonderful gadget.
Problem is TiVo the company hasn’t been doing well. Basically since they failed to align themselves with a major cable company, they are having problems selling units, mostly because of the monthly charge TiVo has for their service. Their boxes/service are superior, but it’s hard to argue when your CableOp gives you a free PVR with less functional featuresets.
Anyway, this past week something that might help keep TiVo going once everyone’s usurped their ideas is a rumour of a merger with Apple. While both companies are denying the talks (Apple says nothing, TiVo says they’re not for sale), I read an article this morning which gives some really compelling reasons as to how a TiVo/Apple merger could be beneficial for both sides.
The more I think about it, the more I like it. Here, go read the article.
