Doctor Who is better than Desperate Housewives

Yes. Doctor Who is better than Desperate Housewives. Why? Well, read this. It’s from a friend of mine who posted this on his blog earlier today. The friend he refers to is me, and the bit about “my wife” refers to my wife. Lynn was the one who said the remark to me last night which started all of this. Read what Jake had to say on his blog.

So I like Doctor Who right? Yeah, I do. I’ll admit it. I was just talking with a friend who likes it as much as I do, and he mentioned

>> “My wife asked me if she wants me to have her make some special dinner and clear the schedule for when the new Dr Who hits Sci-Fi Channel.” <<

It’s funny, but that struck a chord. Even on Christmas day I had to have an hour to myself to watch the Christmas Invasion episode.

The thing is, I’m actually going to defend this. I’m past admiting I’m sad about this, and I’ve moved into the “What’s wrong with it?”. Christ, all these people watch Desperate Housewives, but I’m the weirdo for liking a TV show that actually has some morals to it?

When I was a kid I was the last of 6 children – my Mum and Dad just didn’t have the time for me that you’d get if you weren’t the last of 6 kids (this is no knock against them – they did great by me, but there’s only so much time in a day when you have 6 children. I never felt unloved or any of that, just that I didn’t necessarily have the 1 on 1 time that other people may have got. Any, enough whining). So I spent a lot of my time watching TV shows or with my head in a book. I LOVE to read and was always reading some really tacky Sci-Fi book or something.

And you know what? Most of that stuff has far greater morality and ethics than Desperate Housewives will ever have. I turned out a pretty ok guy – I know right from wrong and quite frankly I think that there are worse things that learning what kind of man to be from something like Star Trek.

You know after reading this, I have to say he’s spot on. Stuff like Star Trek and Doctor Who has some sort of moral base, which virtually nothing on regular network television does. Let alone something like Desperate Housewives, which has no moral backbone at all. I don’t want to even get into rubbish like “The Book of Daniel”.
So here’s to you mate – you wrote about this a lot better than I would, as I’d probably go off on an angry rant. Read Jake’s thoughts for what I really think about this issue. Yes, Doctor Who is better than Desperate Housewives. I’d even go so far as to say that Nicola Bryant’s cleavage is better than Teri Hatcher’s! But I would put all of the Housewives actresses higher up on that scale than Bonnie Langford, Jake. ;)
