Federal Law Enforcement

I’m a big fan of the band Queensryche, who tend to write a lot of politically charged songs. Anyway, their 1991 album, “Empire” contained a song with the following lyrics.

In fiscal year 1986 to 1987, local state and federal governments spent up to a combined total of 60.6 million dollars on law enforcement.

Federal law enforcement expenditures ranked last in absolute dollars, and accounted for only 6% of all federal spending.

By way of comparison, the federal government spent 24 million more on space exploration, and 43 times more on national defense and international relations than on law enforcement.

I wonder if those stats are the same with the Dubya administration. Course we didn’t have the “Homeland Security Department” back around 1991 when these lyrics were written.
