The Next Doctor
This Story: Series 4b, Story 11. Production Code 4.14
Overall: Story 200, Episode 758
Airdate: 25 Dec 2008
Written by Russell T Davies
Directed by Andy Goddard
Notes
- The first of five specials which spanned the gap between David Tenant’s last full series and Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor.
- Was the last episode of Doctor Who ever filmed in standard definition. Up until this point, every episode from 1963 onward was (although Spearhead From Space is a bit of a grey area).
- The title was a fun play off the fact that it was announced in real life that David Tennant was leaving the programme.
- By my count, this is Story 200 since the show started in 1963. However the BBC considered the next one #200 – the difference is that I count Shada, and they do not as it wasn’t properly broadcast on television.

the cat out of the bag too soon that Jackson Lake wasn't the Doctor. It also involves the Cybermen quite well. Although the bit with the Cyberking was a bit naff. The line at the pic.twitter.com/nPze9BbheV
