Dax

This Story: Season 1 Episode 8 (production code 408)
DS9 Overall: Episode 8
Trek Overall: Story 276, Episode 288
Airdate: 15 Feb 1993
Story by Peter Allan Fields
Teleplay by D.C. Fontana & Peter Allan Fields
Directed by David Carson

Notes

  • Original Star Trek author and legend D.C. Fontana partially wrote this episode.  It was her only credit on Deep Space Nine, and her final writing credit in any incarnation of Star Trek.
  • This episode is the first time we hear the name for Klingon coffee – Raktajino.
  • The surface of the planet Klaestron IV was one of many re-uses of a matte painting that was originally created for the TNG episode “Angel One”.
  • Fionnula Flanagan played Tandro.  She later appeared on TNG in “Inheritance” as Juliana Soong as well as on Star Trek: Enterprise’s “Fallen Hero” episode as a Vulcan.
  • Anne Haney played Renora.  She was also Rishon Uxbridge in the TNG episode “The Survivors“.
  • The only time in any episode of any Trek series as the ruling body of the planet Trill was referred to as “Trillians”.  This of course has nothing to do with the character of the same name from “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”.
  • The fourth episode in a row where Cirroc Lofton (Jake) does not appear.  Colm Meaney doesn’t appear, either, although O’Brien’s absence is explained away in a line of voiceover from Sisko at the start of the episode.
  • The prop the judge uses as a gavel reminds me a lot of the gavel that was used by a Klingon judge in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Deep Space Nine Ep 8 - Dax - 15 Feb 1993 2/2 angle that Dax has no interest in defending herself. Very talk-y ep, but some great background stuff with Trills. Enjoyable performances by Brooks & Auberjonois AND the woman playing the judge.
