The House of Quark

This Story: Season 3 Episode 3 (production code 448)
DS9 Overall: Episode 49
Trek Overall: Story 313, Episode 329
Airdate: 10 Oct 1994
Story by Tom Benko

Notes

  • Grilka was played by Mary Kay Adams – who reprised Grilka in a later DS9 episode.  She was aslo the recurring character of Na’Toth on Babylon 5 for a couple of seasons.
  • The first appearance of Robert O’Reilly as Gowron on Deep Space Nine.  It is also the only episode Gowron appears in in any Trek incarnation without Worf.
  • It is also the only episode of Deep Space Nine set on the Klingon home world – despite there being numerous subsequent Klingon episodes on the show.
  • A prop in Grilka’s house (a platter) was the same prop that was used back in the TOS episode “The Trouble with Tribbles” – in the bar.
  • Tom Benko, who is credited with the story idea here is the only person to have written, directed, and edited Star Trek.
  • Keiko’s school is said to be closed now as all the children have withdrawn.   She takes up a botany interest to take up her time.
  • Quark’s father’s name is mentioned here – “Keldar” (sp?)
  • Rule of Acquisition mentioned – #286: When Morn leaves, it’s all over.  It’s immediately contradicted by Rom saying “There is no such rule”.  :)

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Deep Space Nine Ep 49 - The House of Quark - 10 Oct 1994 1/2 A drunk Klingon kills himself in Quark's bar. He takes credit for it when he didn't do it, and that traps him into people wanting him to keep his story quiet. He's forcibly married to the dead Klingon's widow

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Deep Space Nine Ep 49 - The House of Quark - 10 Oct 1994 2/2 which is a hilarious AF pairing. But it's not all comedy, there's some good drama in here and Armin Shimerman does a great job as "a brave Ferengi". Plus Mary Kay Adams looks AWESOME as a Klingon. A favorite.
