Notes

  • There is a loose sequel to this episode later on in the Star Trek: Lower Decks episode “Hear All, Trust Nothing“.
  • James Cromwell makes his only DS9 appearance as “Hanok“.  He was in two TNG episodes as other characters (The Hunted & Birthright).  He of course is most known as Zefram Cochrane from Star Trek: First Contact.  He also appeared as Cochrane in two Star Trek Enterprise episodes: “Broken Bow” & “In a Mirror, Darkly Pt I“.  Finally he appeared as Cochrane one final time in the Lower Decks episode “Grounded“.
  • The author (David Mack) says that the idea for this episode came after having watched the movie “Das Boot” the night before he started writing this.
  • Nana Vistor wears a Homestead Grays baseball cap.  This is famous Negro Leagues baseball team.
  • One of the first DS9 episodes rely on CGI for visual effects.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Deep Space Nine Ep 79 - Starship Down - 13 Nov 1995 1/2 Basically DS9 does "Das Boot". The Defiant gets wrecked in a battle & is losing well, everything. It's a battle to survive. It reminds me of the TNG episode "Disaster" when nothing worked, and they had to figure out

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Deep Space Nine Ep 79 - Starship Down - 13 Nov 1995 2/2 how to not to die. The joy here is watching the character pair-ups as they're all separated. Obviously they will all survive, so there's no drama there, but the character interactions are quite good in this episode.
