Doctor Bashir, I Presume

This Story: Season 5 Episode 16 (production code 514)
DS9 Overall: Episode 114
Trek Overall: Story 373, Episode 395
Airdate: 24 Feb 1997
Story: Jimmy Diggs
Teleplay: Ronald D. Moore
Director: David Livingston

Notes

  • Robert Picardo from Star Trek Voyager appears here, but as Louis Zimmerman, the creator of the EMH on Voyager.
  • This is the first appearance of the real Dr Zimmerman anywhere.  Prior to this (in real world time), he had appeared as a hologram on the Voyager episodes “Projections” & “The Swarm“.  The real Zimmerman would appear on Voyager once – “Life Line“.
  • Dr Bashir’s parents appear here.  They are played by Fadwa El Guindi & Brian George. George is more well known as the father of Raj Koothrappali on The Big Bang Theory.  El Guindi has only one other credit on her IMDB page (as a director).
  • The first episode with Leeta & Rom as a couple.
  • One of only two episodes to mention Nog’s mother (Prinadora).  She’s mentioned again in “Ferengi Love Songs“, but she is never seen.
  • The timing in the episode between the Eugenics Wars of Trek/Earth’s past and this episode is a mistake – Ronald D. Moore said it should have been longer than the stated 200 years.
  • The last time we see the holo communicator (from the prior two episodes) in Deep Space Nine.
  • The stated rules on genetic modification in this episode seem to contradict the TNG episode “The Masterpiece Society“. The entire plot of that episode should be impossible under the rules laid out here.
  • There is a quick reference to Ricardo Montalban’s Khan here .

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Deep Space Nine Ep 114 - Dr Bashir I Presume - 24 Feb 1997 1/2 An ep that starts out comedic and ends up QUITE serious. Dr Zimmerman arrives to create a new medical hologram using Dr Bashir as a template. There's much comedy with this, including when Bashir's parents

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Deep Space Nine Ep 114 - Dr Bashir I Presume - 24 Feb 1997 2/2 show up. However Zimmerman discovers a secret, that Bashir is genetically engineered (Khan). This is of course forbidden, & changes Bashir's character permanently. It's a good ep. ❤️ Bob Picardo #StarTrekDay
