Tacking Into the Wind

This Story: Season 7 Episode 22 (production code 572)
DS9 Overall: Episode 172
Trek Overall: Story 429, Episode 453
Airdate: 10 May 1999
Writer: Ronald D. Moore
Director: Mike Vejar

Notes

  • The sixth of a ten episode arc that closes out the Dominion War and Deep Space Nine as a series. As far as I know it’s not intended to be a single story with ten parts to it, but it is very tightly wound together (ala Babylon 5), so watching these out of order would be near impossible.  On original broadcast, they were advertised as “The Final Chapter“.
  • The episode title is apparently a nautical term. Has to do with a ship making a whole lot of course corrections in rough seas.
  • The final episode for Robert O’Reilly and Gowron, as the character is killed in this episode.
  • There is a deleted scene I wish I would have been filmed with Ezri & Worf talking about Worf’s extremely brief time as Klingon Chancellor and Worf’s late father.
  • The last time we see the inside of a runabout in the series.
  • Quark is not in this episode (or the next one) as Armin Shimernan was apparently filming episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  However, Shimerman’s wife (Kitty Swink) appeared here was Luaran (a Vorta) – she had been in DS9 before in the “Sanctuary” episode (as Rozahn). There is a picture of her from this episode below.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Deep Space Nine Ep 172 - Tacking Into the Wind - 10 May 1999 1/2 Several ongoing plots - Kira & Odo and the Cardassian rebels (now w/Odo sick), Bashir/OBrien try to work around Starfleet & Section 31 to find a cure for Odo. The best one is the "Klingon shit hits the fan"

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Deep Space Nine Ep 172 - Tacking Into the Wind - 10 May 1999 2/2 one. Gowron keeps acting irrational, & after much debate, he's eventually challenged by Worf who kills him. Worf declines becoming Chancellor, passing to Martok. Another awesome ep! ❤️ Damar. #RIPCrazyEyes
