Meld

This Story: Season 2 Episode 16 (production code 133)
VOY Overall: Episode 32
Trek Overall: Story 463, Episode 488
Airdate: 5 Feb 1996
Story by Michael Sussman
Teleplay by Michael Piller
Directed by Cliff Bole

Notes

  • Running fired torpedo count: 4
  • Confirmed crew deaths since pilot: 5 (crew of 148)
  • The story for this episode was by Mike Sussman.  Sussman would go on to write 10 subsequent episodes of Voyager, be Voyager’s script editor in the seventh season, and be the producer for mist of Star Trek Enterprise (as well as write 22 episodes of that series).
  • The first time we see Voyager’s brig.
  • The start of Tom Paris’ insubordination arc.  I didn’t really mind it, but I thought it woulds come earlier in the show.  He was a criminal, now this established offer, then he goes bad again for a bit.  I thought this plot would have been better placed in the first half of Season 1.
  • This episode has the only reference to raktajino (Klingon coffee) in the whole run of Voyager.
  • At the end of the episode, Suter is left in confinement in his quarters.  He is seen again in the Season 2 finale/cliffhanger.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Voyager Ep 32 - Meld - 5 Feb 1996 1/2 An EXCELLENT ep. Tuvok is puzzled by the randomness of a murder on the ship. He spends his time trying to figure out the murder, then figure out the "why" of it. This involved a mind meld (hence the title) with a Betazed crewmember.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Voyager Ep 32 - Meld - 5 Feb 1996 2/2 Great acting jobs by Tim Russ & Brad Dourif as Lon Suder. Love the dark eyes Suder had - I thought it helped his performance a lot. Love that you can't see where the post meld characters are going. Loved the dive into Tuvok's mind.

My prior physical copies of Star Trek: Voyager looked this way.
