VOY Overall: Episode 29
Trek Overall: Story 460, Episode 485
Airdate: 15 Jan 1996
Written by Nicholas Corea

Notes

  • Running fired torpedo count: 1 (torpedo launchers were loaded but not fired here)
  • The last episode of Star Trek directed by Jonathan Frakes.  After this he directed two TNG movies.  The next episode he directed was Discovery 01×10 – “Despite Yourself” in 2018.
  • The two existing shuttles that got destroyed in “Initiations” and “Parturition” are referenced here.
  • The first of the Doctor’s re-use of McCoy’s “I’m a Doctor, not a …..” lines – this becomes an ongoing thing.
  • The opening sequence of this episode which shows the POV of a transportee was re-used as the intro segment for DVD extras on the Voyager sets.
  • There is a reference to Commander Data in this episode.
  • There are multiple references to Back to the Future here with a few characters saying “Flux capacity”.
  • One of the props used as a spare Robot arm is the arm of Johnny 5 from the movie Short Circuit.
  • Automated Units 3947 & 122 were played by Rick Worthy.  He was also the Klingon Kornan on DS9’s “Soldiers of the Empire“, an Elloran officer in Star Trek: Insurrection, crewman Noah Lessing in “Equinox” and “Equinox, Pt II“, as well as Jannar from Star Trek Enterprise (multiple episodes).

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Voyager Ep 29 - Prototype - 15 Jan 1996 1/2 This ep was well done, but it didn't grab me. It's a Frakes directed one, which usually work for me (although there were some good directional choices). It's mostly around Torres' choices in trying to revive a robot they found

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Voyager Ep 29 - Prototype - 15 Jan 1996 2/2 in space. This also had some nice angles for Torres - dealing with motherhood to some extent. I think part of the reason I didn't care for it is I didn't like the visual look of the robots. A shallow reason, but here we are.
