The Chute

This Story: Season 3 Episode 3 (production code 147)
VOY Overall: Episode 45
Trek Overall: Story 475, Episode 501
Airdate: 18 Sep 1996
Story by Clayvon C. Harris
Teleplay by Kenneth Biller
Directed by Les Landau

Notes

  • Running fired torpedo count: 14 (3 this episode) / Confirmed crew deaths since pilot: 11 (crew of 143).
  • The first episode produced in the third season block.
  • Two working titles for this episode were “The Pit” and “Playground”.
  • The idea behind this story originated in the first season, and it took them this long to figure out how to make it.
  • Piri is played by Rosemary Morgan.  In real life she is the daughter of Julie Cobb, who played Yeoman Leslie Thompson in the “By Any Other Name” episode of the original series.
  • The first time we see the inside of Neelix’s ship (besides some of it being seen on a view screen in “Caretaker“).
  • Don McManus plays Zio in this episode.  He’s also in my all time favorite movie – “The Shawshank Redemption” (a a guard).
  • Robert Pine plays Liria here.  He was also the Vulcan Tavin in an Enterprise episode “Fusion“.  Pine is also the real life father of Chris Pine, who played James T. Kirk in the 3 JJ Abrams films.
  • Jams Parks plays Vel here.  He was also Bennings in the Enterprise episode “North Star“.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Voyager Ep 45 - The Chute - 18 Sep 1996 1/2 Paris & Kim are trapped on an away mission in a culture that reminds me a bit of the Manhattan Island prisoner culture in Escape from New York. It's one of this plot devices you know won't be permanent, so you are just waiting

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Voyager Ep 45 - The Chute - 18 Sep 1996 2/2 for an escape. Some good performances by McNeill & Wang in this episode I thought. B plot is Voyager searching for bombers that really committed the crime that got Paris/Kim imprisoned. Enjoyed this more than I remembered.

My prior physical copies of Star Trek: Voyager looked this way.
