Prey
This Story: Season 4 Episode 16 (production code 184)
VOY Overall: Episode 84
Trek Overall: Story 510, Episode 539
Airdate: 18 Feb 1998
Written by Brannon Braga
Directed by Allan Eastman
Notes
- Running fired torpedo count: 23 / Confirmed crew deaths since pilot: 15 (one this episode, although off screen (crew of 146 (my count says 139))).
- While this episode is strongly tied to the last one (“Hunters“), the two are not considered a two parter.
- This episode was directed by Robert Eastman. He directed just a total of 2 Voyager and 1 DS9 episode. He was also one of the executive producers of the series “Gene Roddenberry’s Andromeda“.
- It is said that this episode takes place 12 hours after the last one and six months from “Scorpion“.
- The Alpha Hirogen is played by Tony Todd, who was most known for playing Worf’s brother Kurn on a few TNG & DS9 episodes, but as well as older Jake Sisko on DS9’s “The Visitor“.
- The EV suits worn by Paris, Tuvok, & Chakotay are the same ones used in Star Trek: First Contact.
- Clint Carmichael plays two different Hirogen in this episode. He also was one of the Nausicans in the TNG episode “Tapestry“.
- Janeway says “It is wrong to sacrifice a life to save our own” – something that comes up in spades in the Equinox two parter bridging Seasons 5 & 6.
