Equinox Part II

This Story: Season 6 Episode 1 (production code 221)
VOY Overall: Episode 121
Trek Overall: Story 545b, Episode 577
Airdate: 22 Sep 1999
Story by Rick Berman, Brannon Braga, & Joe Menosky
Teleplay by Brannon Braga & Joe Menosky
Directed by David Livingston

Notes

  • The first episode of Season 6.  It was also the first episode of Voyager when it was the only incarnation on the air.  This remained the status quo through till the end of Voyager’s finale.
  • Running fired torpedo count: 60 (7 this episode).  This contradicts the hard limit set in “The Cloud” of 38.  The actual number fired this episode is unclear, but seven are for sure fired – there could have been more due to dialogue in the episode.
  • Officially, the title of this episode is “Equinox, Part II” (with the comma).  Their inconsistencies in naming two parters annoys me.  Some have a comma, some don’t.  Some have “Part I” in the first part, some don’t.  Make up your mind, people!
  • Three crew members are confirmed to have died this episode – I’ve given up counting current crew due to various inconsistencies in the crew count in the last 30 or so episodes.
  • At the end of this episode, five surviving Equinox crew become part of the Voyager crew, albeit stripped of rank (Brian Sofin, James Morrow, Marla Gilmore, Noah Lessing, & Angelo Tassoni).  Three of them (Gilmore, Lessing, & Tassoni) are never seen or mentioned again.  Sofin has a background non speaking role in the episode “Homestead“.  Morrow appears twice more (“Drive” & “Author Author“).
  • Several prior episodes have their events recalled in some capacity here: “Scorpion“, “Message in a Bottle“, “Night“, & “Darkling“.
  • This episode was nominated for an Emmy Award for “Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series.”

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Voyager Ep 121 - Equinox Part II - 22 Sep 1999 1/2 S6's first ep wraps up the cliffhanger. Generally in a way you'd expect, but not fully. There's a few twists with the EMH that I didn't see coming. Ransom's end was about what you'd expect. Janeway on the other end does

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Voyager Ep 121 - Equinox Part II - 22 Sep 1999 2/2 a few things that seem out of character ("firing" Chakotay, near torture of officer), but in the end, all is reset. Despite my tone above, I did enjoy this ep, just something felt disjointed I can't put my finger on.

My prior physical copies of Star Trek: Voyager looked this way.
