In The Flesh
This Story: Season 5 Episode 4 (production code 198)
VOY Overall: Episode 98
Trek Overall: Story 523, Episode 553
Airdate: 4 Nov 1998
Written by Nick Sagan
Directed by David Livingston
Notes
- Running fired torpedo count: 40 / Confirmed crew deaths since pilot: 19 (crew of 140 (my count says 134)).
- During this episode the Doctor says “two down, one hundred and twenty five to go” which seems to imply a crew complement of 127, which I can’t make work with the existing counts. I may stop counting this.
- The author (Nick Sagan) said in his mind the character of Valerie Archer is related to Jonathan Archer from Star Trek Enterprise, but this was never expressed in on screen dialogue.
- A Species 8472 computer monitor is made out of parts from a prop in “Year of Hell Part II“. It would reappear in “Life Line” and “Nightingale“.
- The first episode with Seven’s blue bodysuit.
- The last (of four) episodes that feature Species 8472 as a primary character in the episode. After this they make a couple of small appearances, but only in cameo fashion.
- Ray Walston reprises his character of Boothby he originated in TNG’s “The First Duty“. However here it is a species 8472 impersonation. Walston would reprise the role once more in “The Fight“.
- Tucker Smallwood plays Admiral Bullock. He would later have a recurring role in Season 3 of Star Trek: Enterprise as a Xindi-Primate councilor (in nine episodes).
