Breaking the Ice

This Story: Season 1 Episode 8 (production code 108)
ENT Overall: Episode 8
Trek Overall: Story 599, Episode 636
Airdate: 7 Nov 2001
Written by Maria & Andre Jacquemetton
Directed by Terry Windell

Notes

  • Running Decon Gel Scene Appearances: Trip (1), T’Pol (1) – none this episode.
  • The only episode of Enterprise to be directed by Terry Windell.  He also directed ten episodes of Star Trek: Voyager.
  • The first episode of a rather deep friendship between Trip & T’Pol which expands far beyond friendship as the series goes on.
  • This episode was nominated for an Emmy Award for “Visual Effects for a Series” (but lost to the Enterprise pilot).
  • The first time we ever see a Vulcan High Command ship in all of Star Trek.
  • The Vulcan Koss is mentioned here, and seen in later episodes.  He was an arranged marriage to T’Pol.
  • I believe this is the first time we see the inside of T’Pol’s quarters.
  • The scene where the crew answers kids questions felt like it was covering for space in an episode that runs too short.  It’s a cute scene, but really feels odd.
