Tikka To Ride
Tikka to Ride
This Story: Season 7, Episode 1
Overall: Story 37, Episode 37
Airdate: 17 Jan 1997
Written by Doug Naylor
Directed by Ed Bye
Notes
- This is the first episode not written by or having any oversight by Rob Grant, who had a falling out with Doug Naylor. Doug continued on and still does to this day in charge of Red Dwarf.
- The cliffhanger from the end of Series 6 was addressed and resolved (unlike Series 2). However, in typical Red Dwarf fashion, the resolution is convoluted and basically a head scratcher – but still works.
- The DVD version has multiple additional versions of this episode. There’s “Standard” (28:41), “Remastered” (28:55), “Xtended” (37:14), and “Remastered + Xtended” (37:13).
- The two “remastered” versions are in Standard def on the Blu-Ray set where the Standard & Xtended versions are in HD.
Xtended Notes
Here is an explanation as to what all the additional versions are about…
- Tikka To Ride Xtended: The Xtended version of Tikka to Ride includes scenes deleted from the original TV version. It also appears here with no audience laughter track
- Tikka to Ride Remastered: A “Remastered” edition with brand-new effects shots. Writer Doug Naylor was never satisfied with the last-minute CGI created for Series VII, and this special DVD episode shows how things might have been. Additional new FX shots can be seen in the Xtended edition.
- Tikka to Ride Extended & Remastered: The Xtended version of Tikka to Ride includes scenes deleted from the original TV version. It also appears here with no audience laughter track. This is A “Remastered” edition with brand-new effects shots. Writer Doug Naylor was never satisfied with the last-minute CGI created for Series VII, and this special DVD episode shows how things might have been.

S7 starts with a fun time travel story. Lister, in trying to go back in time for curries ends up causing the elimination of society in general as he prevents JFK from being assassinated by accidentally killing Lee Harvey pic.twitter.com/LYEMJsyNNC

Oswald. To fix all this, they end up convincing future JFK to come back in time and assassinate himself. It's so Red Dwarf - a lot of comedy here, both intellectual and physical. Kryten wo behavior protocols is hilarious. pic.twitter.com/hFlu3aZoqW
