- Worf is confirmed to hold the rank of Captain now.
- The last episode for Amanda Plummer as Vadic, as she is visually shown to be quite dead in this episode. Likewise the Shrike ship is destroyed.
- The only appearance in the series overall of Data’s cat, Spot.
- Denise Crosby’s Tasha Yar makes an appearance in this episode, but in archived footage of the hologram version that appeared in “Skin of Evil” in Season 1 of TNG.
- There is a quick throwback to the Worf/Troi relationship in late Season 7 of the series here.
- The first time the core Next Generation crew is gathered together in one spot for the first time (in universe) since Star Trek: Nemesis.
