Notes
- While hinted at in the past, the foundation of the Odo/Kira relationship is leaned into heavily here.
- Likewise the idea of Nog joining Starfleet is founded here. Both ideas would be a major driving point through the rest of the series.
- Why Odo has that name is revealed in this episode. It’s said to originally be “Unknown sample”, and translated to a Cardassian word that means “nothing”.
- Rom is shown to not be a total moron, but an actual engineer, something that was hinted at a few times in the past.
- The appearance of the female changeling is a followup to events in the episode “The Search, Part II“.
- Rule of Acquisition mentioned – #18: A Ferengi without profit is no Ferengi at all.
- The first time we see Odo with a gun.

Examination of Odo's feelings for Kira, & Nog wanting to get into Starfleet Academy. I did like the Nog story, but Odo & Kira as a couple is something I never cared for. It wasn't as bad as Worf/

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Deep Space Nine Ep 60 - Heart of Stone - 6 Feb 1995 2/2 Troi on TNG, but well.. Odo/Kira relationship heavy stories aren't my fav. On the other hand, I loved the character development for both Rom & Nog in this. DS9 really fixed the bad Ferengi perception problem on TNG.
