Notes
- Running fired torpedo count: 73 (two this episode) This contradicts the hard limit set in “The Cloud” of 38.
- A working title of this episode was “Federation”.
- This episode’s plot was extremely similar to the plot of the animated series “The Time Trap“.
- You can hear a small part of the original series theme song in the incidental music in this episode (scene at the end when Janeway & Chakotay are talking about their “alliance”).
- This is the second time Voyager was stuck in a dark void like this – the other time was “Night“.
- This episode was nominated for an Emmy Award for “Outstanding Makeup For A Series.”
- Valen was played by Robin Sachs. This is his only Trek appearance, but he did appear on Babylon 5 a few times, and his character name here was also a character name on Babylon 5 as well.
- Garon was played by Scott Lawrence. He also was a bridge officer on the USS Vengeance in Star Trek: Into Darkness.
- Fantome was played by Jonathan Del Arco. He’s most well known for playing Hugh the Borg in the TNG episodes “I, Borg” & “Descent, Part II“, as well as three episodes of the first season of Star Trek: Picard.
- This has nothing to do with the plot, but the opening scene shows Seven experimenting with cooking. she makes a meal and when Tom Paris asks for salt, Seven says “Additional seasoning is not required”. All I could think of in that moment is Lenny Henry’s rant as Gareth Blackstock about the same subject in the “Chef!” episode “Beyond the Pass“.

Several ships get stuck in a black void, and can only survive by cannibalizing the property of the others. Unless of course Janeway can convince one

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Voyager Episode 161 - The Void - 14 Feb 2001 2/2 of them to cooperate and escape (which of course they do). That's about the extent of the plot. It is based around Janeway (& her morals) creating an alliance in the void to escape. It's "ok", but not a killer episode.
