Notes
- My research shows that they didn’t want this to be like “A Fistful of Datas” which was mostly silly. They wanted this to be more serious than that.
- One of the aliens was named Cronin. This was a direct reference to original series writer/producer Gene L. Coon. After some conflict with Roddenberry, Coon used the name “Lee Cronin” as a pseudonym. One of the episodes released under the name Lee Cronin was “Spectre of the Gun“, also a western.
- MacReady was payed by Glenn Morshower. He was also Burke in TNG’s “Peak Performance“, Orton in TNG’s “Starship Mine“, an Enterprise-B navigator in Star Trek Generations, & a Mokra guard in Voyager’s “Resistance“.
- Bennings was played by James Parks. He was also Vel in the Voyager episode “The Chute“.

TNG did that a few times, but it was generally played for comedy - this one wasn't. Which begs the question - why do this? Doesn't feel like a proper story idea beyond "Hey, let's do a Western".

It wasn't bad - nice seeing the characters in a different setting, but why Season 3? This has what to do with the Xindi arc? Seems like a question I'm asking a lot this season. Archer & crew get caught up in a local conflict they have to get out of - but again - why are they even HERE at all?
