Boom

This Story: Series 1 Episode 3. Production code 14.5
Overall: Story 307, Episode 884
Airdate: 18 May 2024
Written by Steven Moffat
Directed by Julie Anne Robinson

Notes

  • This was based off a segment from the Tom Baker story “Genesis of the Daleks” when The Doctor stood on a landmine.  This was confirmed by Steven Moffat in behind the scenes info.
  • The character of Mundy Flynn was played by Varada Sethu.  She will be a permanent ongoing (second) companion in Series 2/15/41 in 2025.  This character is (as of May 2024) not expected to be related to her character as a companion.
  • Features the Anglican Marines, first seen in the Matt Smith story, “The Time of Angels“.
  • There’s a reference to Matt Smith’s first episode (The Eleventh Hour) when 15 mentions loving fish fingers & custard.

Boom is BRILLIANT. Takes a simple concept - the Doctor stands on a landmine & can't move and makes it work over the entire ep. Brilliantly written by Steven Moffat, it features a powerhouse pic.twitter.com/RpyKX4QwLm

performance by Ncuti Gatwa. The only thing I didn't care for was the "kid" in this, she didn't seem to act terribly well, but other than that, brilliant episode with brilliant dialogue. pic.twitter.com/bWAuZODDu7
