Dimensions in Time

This Story: 30th Anniversary Special. Production Code C280X
Overall: Not counted in episode and story count due to unique status
Airdates: 26 Nov 1993 – 27 Nov 1993
Written by John Nathan-Turner & David Roden
Directed by Stuart McDonald

Notes

  • This was the final televised story produced by John Nathan-Turner.  It was also the only story he ever got a writing credit on.  It is generally considered non canonical, although there has never been a formal statement of its canonicity made as far as I know.
  • Was the only Doctor Who story ever made in 3D (until the 50th Anniversary Special).  It has never been officially released on home video.  Given it was a charity piece, and nobody got paid for their services, it cannot be released on home video as far as I am aware.
  • Was the final use of the title sequence used through Sylvester McCoy’s era.
  • Was the only on screen meeting of Colin Baker’s Sixth Doctor & Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart.
  • Was the only time Tom Baker ever returned to the Doctor Who as the Fourth Doctor (Shada refilming notwithstanding).
  • A screen capture of this was used in the 2025 episode “Wish World“, which Russell T Davies said in an in Instagram post was done solely to make this story officially canon.  A screen cap of Russell’s comment is included below.

That has prevented it being released officially on home video. Was hosted by Noel Edmonds & Jon Pertwee. First time Tom Baker

#DoctorWhoMarathon - Dimensions in Time Ep 1/2 (Serial C280X) - 26 Nov 1993 #DoctorWho 2/2 returned, was only Who ever produced in 3D (at that time). The story is totally naff, but it's fun seeing all the old actors return in combinations that never happened on show. Only ep w/ JNT writing credit.

#DoctorWhoMarathon - Dimensions in Time Ep 2/2 (Serial C280X) - 27 Nov 1993 #DoctorWho 1/2 Ep2 had a phone in result which dictated events on screen. My fav moment here was when 6 met the Bridagider - only time it ever happened on screen. Did like seeing Romana 2, Victoria, & Liz. This was the last

#DoctorWhoMarathon - Dimensions in Time Ep 2/2 (Serial C280X) - 27 Nov 1993 #DoctorWho 2/2 ever appearance by Kate O'Mara as the Rani. Honestly the only real reason to watch this is all the (quick) cameos and combinations. Really wish they'd find a way to release it. The Wilderness years set? :)
