Masks

This Story: Season 7 Episode 17 (production code 269)
TNG Overall: Episode 169
Trek Overall: Story 261, Episode 271
Airdate: 21 Feb 1994
Written by Joe Menosky (and Naren Shankar – uncredited)
Directed by Robert Wiemer

Notes

  • The temple set was later used on Deep Space Nine’s “Blood Oath” as the Albino’s fortress.
  • The comet special effect was done by a SFX company named “Santa Barbara Studios”. They’re the same people that did the Deep Space Nine titles, and its comet.
  • One of the masks here would make a reappearance as such in the Star Trek Lower Decks episode “Room for Growth“.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek TNG Ep 169 - Masks - 21 Feb 1994 This one was freakin' awful in 1994, and has not gotten any better in 2025. I came *THIS CLOSE* to skipping it, but I didn't. This can't be the same show that made Best of Both Worlds, can it? Some BS about Data being taken over - AGAIN.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek TNG Ep 169 - Masks - 21 Feb 1994 2/1 One small followup to this - while the story is still awful, some of the visuals were better than I recalled - but the entire "WHY" of this remains. This was NOT good.
