Metamorphosis

This Story: Season 2 Episode 9 (production code 2.2)
TOS Overall: Story 38, Episode 39
Trek Overall: Story 38, Episode 39
Airdate: 10 Nov 1967
Written by Gene L. Coon
Directed by Ralph Senesky

Notes

  • One of only four appearances in all of Star Trek for the character of Zephram Cochrane (and the only one by Glenn Corbett).  The next time was Star Trek: First Contact, and the other two are cameos in Star Trek: Enterprise episodes.  The first was the pilot, and the second was “In a Mirror Darkly Part 1” – the last one just had re-used footage from the First Contact movie, with no new appearance by James Cromwell.

In short, Kirk & crew meet Zephram Cochrane - the inventor of warp drive. When they announced they were using James Cromwell in the movies, I wondered how it would reconcile with this ep. It doesn't, really. pic.twitter.com/gFSWONQZV3

Most of this ep has Kirk, Spock, & McCoy stranded on a planet. Given how unreliable the shuttles have been, putting all your top ranking guys in one is a recipe for disaster. This is an oddly crafted love story. pic.twitter.com/reEXiKhmfN
