Revenge of the Cybermen
This Story: Season 12, Story 5. Production Code 4D
Overall: Story 79, Episodes 398-401
Airdates: 19 Apr 1975 to 10 May 1975
Written by Gerry Davis & Robert Holmes (uncredited)
Directed by Michael E. Briant
Notes
- When I did the tweets for Episode 2, I forgot to change the date from Episode 1, so it made the dates on Episode 2 & 3’s tweets incorrect. I noticed that when I went to do Episode 4, but I can’t change the dates on the existing tweets. Whoops.
- Barring flashbacks and cameos, this was the first proper appearance of the Cybermen in a Doctor Who story since 1968’s “The Invasion“, and the last appearance until 1982’s “Earthshock“.
- This is the last appearance in Doctor Who by Kevin Stoney who here played “Tyrum”. He was in Doctor Who twice before playing the primary bad guy in 1965’s “The Daleks’ Master Plan” (Mavic Chen) & 1968’s “The Invasion” (as Tobias Vaughn). He’s unrecognizable here as he’s under full prosthetic and makeup.

A story I have little memory of beyond "meh". It was the 1st appearance of the Cybermen since Troughton "The Invasion" in 1968. One of the actors from The Invasion was also pic.twitter.com/MlejnnNR7P

here - Kevin Stoney. At the time I thought it was cool to re-use the Ark in Space sets, but now it just feels like a cost cutting move. This is 1000's yrs b4 Ark in Space. pic.twitter.com/wF69JNtnrF

SJS is attacked by a Cybermat. The Doctor uses the station's transmit to send her & Harry to Voga, where she's cured, but they run into the natives who capture them. The pic.twitter.com/RQxg5sPrs8

Doctor realizes Kellman is working w/Cybermen and helps station crew to get him. What everyone's relation to each other is I don't know yet. Cybermen still seem minor. pic.twitter.com/unNEsDuzpI

Just occurred to me that this feels plot wise like The Moonbase w/the Cybermen attacking well, "a base". The voices still feel off, I prefer the Cyber voices from the 60's. pic.twitter.com/QaV9lFVtt4

The scene with The Doctor talking with the Cyber Leader was quite good. Clip from that used in 1982's Earthshock. This ep was better than others, but still kind of "meh". pic.twitter.com/vudvMdjFeh

"HARRY SULLIVAN IS AN IMBECILE" - That's it. The reason Harry leaves in the next story.?SJS gets on the station and realizes there are 11 mins till bombs explode & blow up pic.twitter.com/MdvxLZzw5K

Voga. Naturally this doesn't happen due to the Doctor. The Cybermen are blown up w/a missile intended for the station. This was weakest of the season, not at all memorable. pic.twitter.com/JZCpkmruVT
