Notes (Part I)
- The character of Po (full name ‘Me Hani Ika Hali Ka Po’) is played by Yadira Guevara-Prip. The character had previously appeared in the Short Treks episode “Runaway“. The short serves as a prequel to these two episodes.
- The second (of three) appearances by Rebecca Romjin as Una Chin-Riley (on Discovery).
- The first time we see the inside of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701. It does not look like the original series Enterprise (due to real world production values), but it is supposed to be the same ship as it exists in the original series. You’re supposed to just overlook the physical differences.
- When the Enterprise fires weapons on the Discovery, the sound effects used seem to match the earliest stuff we heard in the original series, which I quite liked.
Notes (Part II)
- This episode is the Season 2 finale.
- This episode is 1:04:45 in length, roughly 15-18 mins longer than a standard Discovery episode.
- The third and final appearance by Rebecca Romjin as Una Chin-Riley – on Discovery. She would go on to play the character in two episodes of Short Treks and 44 episodes of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
- The final episodes for numerous characters on the series. Anson Mount’s Christopher Pike, Shazad Latif’s Ash Tyler, Jayne Brook as Admiral Cornwall, Mary Chieffo as L’Rell, Mia Kirshner as Amanda Grayson, Ethan Peck as Spock, Alan van Sprang as Leland
- A few of those (Pike, L’Rell, Amanda) would play the characters in other series (mostly Strange New Worlds & Lower Decks).
- The repair robots on the outside of NCC-1701 reminded me of a combination of Wall-E and R2-D2.
- The final shot of the episode (with Enterprise) features a reverse shot of the original establishing shot of the OG pilot – “The Cage”. That involves a pull out through the roof of the ship out to space.

Control, who is basically taking over everything. To rectify this, they come up with a plan to take Discovery out of the current time. Discovery gets help from a character from one of the Short Treks who otherwise wasn't known. This is a fairly talky ep, but it all works well, a good setup for Pt 2.

issue the ship's existence creates with TOS canon. It also solves the problem of why Spock never spoke of Michael ever before. Change in format also means it's the last ep for numerous characters (Cornwall, L'Rell, Tyler). The latter is left running Sec31 after Control/Leland is killed. This ep has

some great battle scenes, and some good moments of emotional resonance. I actually quite liked the scenes at the end of surviving characters being repositioned about the existence/destruction of Discovery. Overall an excellent finale to what to me is the best overall season of Star Trek Discovery.
