Notes

• The child from this episode is never seen or referenced ever again. Ever.
• This story was originally a script for the never fully produced “Star Trek: Phase II” TV series in 1977.  There are some details on that version here.
• Presumably as the writer’s strike was still a thing, they just used a script from that and changed the character of Ilia to Troi.
• The first episode for Diana Muldaur as Dr. Katherine Pulaski.
• The first episode for Whoopi Goldberg as Guinan, and by extension the first one with the Ten Forward set.
• The first episode where Geordi LaForge is promoted to chief engineer, ending the parade of random engineers from the first season (none of which are ever seen again, I believe).
• The first episode for Riker’s beard.  It will remain this way through the end of Star Trek: First Contact.
• Worf is officially promoted (off screen) to security chief.
• The only Season 2 episode to mention Beverly Crusher.  She is seen in archive footage in the finale, however.
• First appearance of Colm Meaney in S2 (non speaking) – now seemingly transporter chief, but still with no on screen name.
