The Immunity Syndrome

This Story: Season 2 Episode 18 (production code 2.19)
TOS Overall: Story 47, Episode 48
Trek Overall: Story 47, Episode 48
Airdate: 19 Jan 1968
Written by Robert Sabaroff
Directed by Joseph Pevney

Notes

  • My second favorite episode of Star Trek.
  • Uses Sol Kaplan’s “Doomsday Machine” score again.
  • This is the sole episode in which McCoy wears only his medical tunic.  It is also the only episode where McCoy’s official rank is stated – “Lieutenant Commander”.
  • This is the last time we see the inside of a shuttlecraft in the series, despite half the overall series left to air at this point.
  • The last episode directed by Joseph Pevney.
  • The JJ Abrams film “Star Trek: Into Darkness” starts with a scene that replicates the “Shut up Spock, we’re rescuing you” line from this episode, as they had to rescue Spock from a mission there.

My 2nd fav ep of TOS overall. Partially because of the good monster of the week and that it's a "ship show", but mostly because of the strong interplay with the big three. Lots of good character moments. pic.twitter.com/fXc9YJgw7h

The 60's sfx for the cell hold up VERY well. "Shut up Spock, we're rescuing you!" - one of the best McCoy lines ever. Drinking game: Take a shot when someone says they don't have info or don't know! 🤣 pic.twitter.com/8BGEp154DM

I couldn't NOT include this clip. One of the best. The "nodding of heads" I've seen in various social media programs' gif buttons originates here. :) pic.twitter.com/ZubSGuJvYk

I love this set in engineering, one of my favorites.

Everyone goes flying around the ship, and Kirk just swivels from side to side in his chair.
Director Joseph Pevney during filming of this episode.
