Tin Man

This Story: Season 3 Episode 20 (production code 168)
TNG Overall: Episode 68
Trek Overall: Story 168, Episode 170
Airdate: 23 Apr 1990
Written by Dennis Putman Bailey & David Bischoff
Directed by Robert Sheerer

Notes

  • The first episode with a male Betazoid.
  • The visual effect of the Gomtuu’s “attack” was a re-use of a special effect created for V’Ger in Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
  • The ambient sounds that Gomtuu made were derived from sounds recorded from sound effects editor Jim Wolvington’s stomach through a stethoscope while he was eating pizza. (This is a direct lift from the Memory Alpha page, but was too good not to use).

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek TNG Ep 68 - Tin Man - 23 Apr 1990 1/2 Parts of this remind me of Farpoint, the pilot. It's not quite like that, tho. The most unique thing here is that we finally meet a male Betazoid. Watching Troi interact with him was interesting as he used to be a patient of hers.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek TNG Ep 68 - Tin Man - 23 Apr 1990 2/2 He's nothing like Troi. Very combustible person who appears to actively read everyone's thoughts whether they want it or not. Spent most of this wishing Tam wasn't a jerk - didn't care for him. The main plot just didn't interest me.

That smile looks like Jack Nicholson’s from Batman 89.
The effect that was reused from Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
