Resurrection of the Daleks

This Story: Season 21, Story 4. Production Code 6P
Overall: Story 134, Episodes 619-620
Airdates: 8 Feb 1984 – 15 Feb 1984
Written by Eric Saward
Directed by Matthew Robinson

Notes

  • This story was conceived as the usual 4 part, 25 min episode story.  However, due to Winter Olympic coverage at the time, the BBC was forced to reschedule Doctor Who’s airing.  This story was originally broadcast as two 45 min episodes.  That is how I will watch them in my marathon, vs the 4 episode version that is available on DVD.
  • This was the last (regular) episode for Janet Fielding as Tegan.  Barring cameos and flashbacks, she next appeared in Doctor Who in 2023’s “The Power of the Doctor“.

Aired in 2 long eps due to Olympics, we finally get to the Daleks. It's glorious as all hell. One of my fav Dalek stories. It's also got one of the highest body counts pic.twitter.com/begr7a0Lwj

in #DoctorWho w/only 3 people outside of the Tardis crew surviving. There's also a funny bit w/a Dalek being pushed out of a window. Canonically a sequel to Destiny of the Daleks. pic.twitter.com/0EiI9xokNb

The plot here of the Daleks planning on cloning the Doctor & assassinating the members of the High Council on Gallifrey has been retconned to be part of the Time War of pic.twitter.com/BqKrtPIMn1

NewWho. Awesome flashback sequence of old Doctors & companions (minus Leela) in here. Lots of death in this ep. Davros is very shouty here. Dalek foam death is funny. pic.twitter.com/ImWnbBt61N

This is Tegan's last ep. She leaves the crew/Tardis saying she's tired of all the death, & it's no fun anymore. It's quite a quick exit, but is believable. Liked Tegan! pic.twitter.com/EOsMEEpbaq
