The Last Day

This Story: Season 3, Episode 6
Overall: Story 18, Episode 18
Airdate: 19 Dec 1989
Written by Rob Grant & Doug Naylor
Directed by Ed Bye

Notes

  • There is a remastered version of this episode, but I will be using the original version.
  • This is the final episode that was done under the remaster series.
  • The character of Jim Reaper from Divadroid International was played by Robert Lewellyn (who also played Kryten).
  • This episode establishes Kryten’s full name – “Kryten 2X4B-523P”
  • One of the last lines in this episode Kryten clearly said he was lying, yet the next episode starts off with Kryten saying he can’t lie, and Lister has to teach him how to lie.

#RedDwarfMarathon Ep 18 - The Last Day - 19 Dec 1989 1/2 S3 finale is one that's uneven for me. The crew get a notice that Kryten's service contract was expiring, and a new model was on the way. The entire ep you're being set up that Kryten will die, but in the end, he won't, & they have to outwit

#RedDwarfMarathon Ep 18 - The Last Day - 19 Dec 1989 2/2 the newer model. Most of the ep is around the crew giving Kryten a night to remember before his death. We also get into android's concept of "Silicon Heaven". Several funny bits, but overall just "ok". "Where do all the calculators go?"
