Errand of Mercy

This Story: Season 1 Episode 26 (production code 1.27)
TOS Overall: Story 26, Episode 27
Trek Overall: Story 26, Episode 27
Airdate: 23 Mar 1967
Written by Gene L. Coon
Directed by John Newland

Notes

  • The first episode ever with Klingons.
  • John Colicos plays the first Klingon commander, “Kor”.  He would play this character in three episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine – “Blood Oath“, “The Sword of Kahless“, & “Once More Unto the Breach“.
  • The character of Kor also appears in the Animated Series episode “The Time Trap“, but is not voiced by John Colicos. Kor was voiced by James Doohan in that episode.
  • The events of this episode are referenced again in the future as the “Organian Peace Treaty”.
  • This episode has the Organians say that in the future, the Federation and the Klingon Empire will become friends.  This foretells the events in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

The first ep with Klingons! Kor is playeed by John Colicos of Battlestar Galactica fame. Kirk & Spock are tasked with saving the Organians from Klingon occupation, which doesn't work. The Klingons land, cause pic.twitter.com/fgsc2LdexZ

problems. The natives are basically indifferent towards the problems, perplexing Kirk. I've said this before, but it's one of the better eps of Season 1. John Colicos is great. Would have loved a 2 parter. pic.twitter.com/5Dx0NRchbc

This ship did not appear in the original episode, this is a remastered effect.
