The Enterprise Incident

This Story: Season 3 Episode 2 (production code 3.4)
TOS Overall: Story 57, Episode 58
Trek Overall: Story 57, Episode 58
Airdate: 27 September 1968
Written by D.C. Fontana
Directed by John Meredyth Lucas

Notes

  • The Romulan cloaking device prop was mostly the robot Nomad from “Return to Tomorrow”.  The console that held it was used in other episodes as well – “I, Mudd“, “The Return of the Archons“, & “Whom Gods Destroy“.
  • The first episode of any incarnation of Star Trek to have a female ship commander.
  • This is the second and final appearance of the Romulans in the original series.
  • The Romulan commander was played by Joanne Linville.  The character was revived (along with Subcommander Tai) in the series finale of the fan series “Star Trek Continues”.  In this production, the Romulan Commander was played by Amy Rydell, the real life daughter of the original actress Joanne Linville.  Photos of these two are below.

Kirk & Spock go on an undercover mission to steal a Romulan cloaking device. It's a fun ep, all ships, has the second/final appearance of the Romulans in TOS. There's a LOT of great dialogue here, some pic.twitter.com/p8HsltKHMX

great scenes with Spock & the Romulan Commander. Great drama, great episode, a few light comedic touches, but it doesn't feel like a comedy. Very much enjoyed this episode. Shout out to @SubcommanderT! pic.twitter.com/6EJuCBWaN6
