Where No One Has Gone Before

This Story: Season 1 Episode 6 (production code 106)
TNG Overall: Episode 6
Trek Overall: Story 106, Episode 108
Airdate: 26 Oct 1987
Written by Diane Duane & Michael Reaves
Directed by Rob Bowman

Notes

  • This was based on a novel by Diane Duane called “The Wounded Sky“.
  • The first appearance of Erik Menyuk’s “The Traveller”.  He appears twice more (Remember Me & Journey’s End).
  • Menyuk was a finalist to be cast as Data, but lost to Brent Spiner.
  • Tasha Yar gets some back story and small character development, one of the few episodes to do that.
  • Wesley gets his field commission to “acting Ensign” in this episode.

This is one that when it was new, I never cared for & never watched again until now. It just did nothing for me. In reading about it I found this is a minority opinion. It was a Wesley heavy ep pic.twitter.com/sSxJLlF0nb

which is a surprise. It sets up a long game of what ultimately becomes of his character in other incarnations (Picard & Prodigy). I did like some of the visuals, though. Better than I remember. pic.twitter.com/MA7GyFUlKJ

First episode for Chief Engineer Argyle, another in the rotating list of engineers in Season 1.
