This Story: Series 2 Episode 4. Production code 15.3
Overall: Story 316 Episode 894
Airdate: 3 May 2025
Written by Pete McTighe
Directed by Peter Hoar

Notes

  • Melanie Bush is mentioned in this episode, but does not appear.
  • The events of the episode “The Devil’s Chord” are said to have taken right before this one (“we were just with the Beatles half an hour ago)
  • Features the re-appearance of Lachele Carl as Trinity Wells a newsreader.  She had last appeared in the David Tennant episode “The Giggle“.
  • Several old Doctor Who stories are mentioned as possible hoaxes – “The Invasion“, “Death in Heaven“, “The Christmas Invasion“, & “The Web of Fear“.
  • Chez Alison is referenced here – this is the same shop that Donna Noble bought her wedding dress in in “The Runaway Bride“.  Speaking of Runaway Bride, the plot of that (Lance & Donna) is similar to Conrad & Ruby here.
  • The conspiracy theory group in here called “Think Tank” is an intentional reference to a group of the same name from the 1975 story “Robot“.
  • The scene at the end with Conrad and the Doctor on the set of the Tardis was filmed on 23 Nov 2023, the actual 60th anniversary of Doctor Who.
  • UNIT’s Time Window is referenced – we saw that in “The Legend of Ruby Sunday” & “Empire of Death“.
  • There is a good interview with the author Pete McTighe on the official Doctor Who site here where he speaks at length about this episode.
  • ADMIN NOTE: This post was actually made on 30 Aug 2025.  It was back dated to appear on the date the episode aired.

#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 894 - Lucky Day (Story 316) - 3 May 2025 1/3 A Doctor (& Belinda) lite episode. This is mostly focused around Ruby Sunday with a few bits from the Doctor. I was mostly indifferent towards Ruby last series, but this is for me her best Who appearance full stop. UNIT/Kate is also

#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 894 - Lucky Day (Story 316) - 3 May 2025 2/3 involved a lot. There's a massive twist in the middle I didn't see coming. Won't ruin it here, but this story reminds me of current life with podcasts, conspiracy theories, cults, online negativity. All hail Pete McTighe. #UNITLies

#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 894 - Lucky Day (Story 316) - 3 May 2025 3/3 @petemctighe.bsky.social is out here, I just wanted to say thanks Pete.. I LOVED this!! It's probably my second fav Doctor Lite story of all of them, and I'm not a huge fan of Doctor Lite stories. joesiegler.blog/2025/05/luck...
