Notes

  • Features the return of Sutekh, a character last seen in “Pyramids of Mars” (1975).

This is what I wrote on social media Saturday morning after having watched this episode late Friday night… (the spoiler free remark).

Well, last night’s #DoctorWho was fucking amazing (The Legend of Ruby Sunday). Brings back someone/something/won’t say from the classic series which I’m always going to be a sucker for. But my 19 year old daughter who does NOT know the classic series was just impressed by this one. When it was over she said “I still have chills”. Sent her a pic of the returning bit from classic series (I’m the Classic Who expert amongst her friends apparently), and she started chatting with her friends about it, all of whom like (modern) Doctor Who as well. Usually dad getting worked up over a returning something usually gets eye rolls from her, but not this one – she loved it. Will absolutely have to watch it again tonight. Will probably refrain from posting about it on social media, as it ends on a cliffhanger, and it would be SUPER spoiler-y for me to spill those beans. But really loved it.

… and then my spoiler remarks written for Twitter (which were still mostly spoiler free).  I wrote this on Sunday 16 Jun, and decided to keep them off social media for the time being, as I don’t want to ruin the big cliffhanger.

A whopper of a penultimate ep. Ends on a major cliffhanger with a reveal of Sutekh (not seen since 1975). Loved how RTD played with fan speculation & theory here. Brings back Mel Bush & does right by the character. #DoctorWho remembers that you can scare your audience. I felt this was a strong blend of old & new Who elements both in story and visual effects. Can’t wait for next week!

UNIT in #DoctorWho seems to go through scientific advisors faster than Spinal Tap goes through drummers. pic.twitter.com/5bgeppZGiJ

#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 888 - The Legend of Ruby Sunday (Story 311a, Serial 14.9) - 15 Jun 2024 #DoctorWho 1/2

Enough time has passed, I can mention this. First major cliffhanger has a whopper - the main bad guy is Suhtekh - a bad guy not seen since 1975. Was revealed well, but.. pic.twitter.com/7DaIaSlmc0

it brings up issues with old continuity. Loved the Doctor laughing at UNIT's Time gadget (UNIT was great overall). Bonnie Langford was awesome! #DoctorWho remembered it can scare! pic.twitter.com/bYMH716i6U
