DS9 Overall: Episode 75
Trek Overall: Story 336, Episode 356
Airdate: 9 Oct 1995
Writer: Michael Taylor (and René Echevarria, uncredited)
Director: David Livingston

Notes

  • Old Jake is played by Tony Todd, who is more well known in Star Trek for playing Worf’s brother Kurn.
  • The episode was nominated for a Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation in 1996.  It lost to a Babylon 5 episode.
  • This episode was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Makeup for a Series in 1996, but lost to a Voyager episode – “Threshold“.
  • The woman who talks to old Jake (Melanie) is played by Rachel Robinson – she is the real life daughter of Garak actor Andrew Robinson.  Rachel also later auditioned for the role of Ezri Dax.
  • The future Starfleet uniforms and comm badges were the same ones used in the alternate future parts of the TNG finale, “All Good Things…“
  • The first episode where Kira wears her red uniform that she wears through the rest of the series (vs the older orange one).
  • In the future alternate reality, Morn ran the old bar on Deep Space Nine.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Deep Space Nine Ep 75 - The Visitor - 9 Oct 1995 1/2 Not only one of the best DS9 eps, but one of the best Trek eps of ANY incarnation. We're in an alternate future where Jake is an old recluse, his father died, and he blames himself. It's got some off the charts tugging

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Deep Space Nine Ep 75 - The Visitor - 9 Oct 1995 2/2 of the heart. The acting by Cirroc Lofton, Tony Todd, & Avery Brooks is amazing. I love a good alternate reality story, but the strength here is the father / son stuff. I rarely cry watching TV but I did here. AGAIN.
