Shadows and Symbols

This Story: Season 7 Episode 2 (production code 552)
DS9 Overall: Episode 152
Trek Overall: Story 409b, Episode 433
Airdate: 5 Oct 1998
Writer: Ira Steven Behr & Hans Beimler
Director: Dennis McCarthy

Notes

  • Sisko is revealed to be part prophet in this episode and not fully Human.  That will be very significant the further we get into Season 7.
  • The final appearance of Joseph Sisko in the series.
  • The final appearance of Weyoun 5 who is killed off screen – the next time we see the character, it’s Weyoun 6 (and 7).
  • The writing on the walls of Benny Russell’s room is real text – it’s apparently the stories of various Deep Space Nine episodes prior to this.
  • The Dr. Wykoff in the Benny Russell visions was played by Casey Biggs – who normally plays Damar on Deep Space Nine.
  • The way Martok’s ship succeeds in its mission is the same used in the TNG episodes “Descent” & “Redemption II“.
  • The real life location used to film the Tyree desert sequences was used again in the Voyager episode “Gravity“.  The two episodes aired just four months apart.
  • The Romulan Cretak was played by Megan Cole.  She was also Noor in the TNG episode “The Outcast” (and the DS9 episode immediately prior to this one).  The character appears again, but played by someone else (Adrienne Barbeau).

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Deep Space Nine Ep 152 - Shadows & Symbols - 5 Oct 1998 3/2 One thing I wanted to add - in the past, this story confused me. I never saw the point of Benny Russell. That it was something designed to stop Sisko didn't occur. This view though, it was all crystal clear.
