VOY Overall: Episode 26
Trek Overall: Story 457, Episode 482
Airdate: 13 Nov 1995
Story by Anthony Williams
Teleplay by Brannon Braga
Directed by Cliff Bole
Notes
- Running fired torpedo count: 1
- It is said in this episode that 10 months have passed (in universe) since the events of the pilot.
- The first of 10 episodes of Voyager directed by Cliff Bole. He also directed 7 episodes of DS9, and 25 of TNG.
- This episode is unique in that it had an intro from Majel Barrett, but it was far wordier than “Previously on Star Trek Voyager”. It recapped the plot of the pilot, “Caretaker“.
- In Caretaker, they left a second alien alive. That was done on the chance the base concept of Voyager wasn’t working, and the production team left that alien as an escape switch. Once it was decided not to use that out, they used the character here.
- The second of three episodes where we see any other Ocampans besides Kes.
- Gary Graham plays Tanis here. He also played the Vulcan Soval in all four seasons of Star Trek Enterprise.
- Norman Large plays an Ocampan man in this episode. He was also the Romulan Neral in Unification I & II plus about a dozen DS9 episodes (via a photo in Odo’s office), a Viterian in the DS9 eps “Duet” & “Second Skin“, and a Kazon captain in “State of Flux“.

It was said in that one there was a "second Caretaker", and in this ep they go to find her. Another in the tease of "getting home early" series of eps. They of course don't get home early - that

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Voyager Ep 26 - Cold Fire - 13 Nov 1995 2/2 would end the series too early. Jennifer Lien does well with Kes in this one. Mostly Kes is a nearly invisible character, but she's got some stuff to do here which was nice to see. Gary Graham from ENT is here as an Ocampan.
