Notes

  • A working title for this episode was “Heart & Soul”.
  • The second appearance of Seska in the series.
  • The first time we see Neelix’s galley.
  • The first time we get The Doctor using McCoy’s phrase “I’m a Doctor not a…..”
  • The first episode with the Vidiian race.  They appear in six subsequent Voyager episodes, the final one being Season 6’s “Fury“.
  • The asteroid that the Vidiians used for cover is a piece of styrofoam that was used to represent a differently named asteroid in the TNG episode “The Pegasus“.
  • The Vidiian ship was a model that had been used multiple times to this point in many incarnations of Star Trek.  It was originally built for “Star Trek III: The Search for Spock“.
  • Neelix ends the episode with just one lung to keep him alive – that fact is mentioned occasionally though the run of the series, and wasn’t ignored/forgotten about.
  • Cully Fredericksen played Dereth here.  He was also the “first contact” Vulcan captain in “Star Trek: First Contact” (and having the footage re-used in Enterprise’s “In A Mirror Darkly“.
  • Neelix’s jealously of Tom Paris starts here.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Voyager Ep 5 - Phage - 6 Feb 1995 2/2 another "command decision ethical dilemma" for Janeway - they're always good. This sets up why they do what they do, which isn't actually evil. This one mostly focused on Neelix which was done well. Enjoyed it more than I remembered.
