- Running fired torpedo count: 18 / Confirmed crew deaths since pilot: 12 (crew of 142).
- A working title for this episode was “Old Scores”.
- This episode was originally pitched for the first season, but held back until now.
- The first of seven scripts André Bormanis did for Voyager. He would become a staff writer on Enterprise after that.
- The first of five Voyager episodes directed by Jesús Salvador Treviño. He also directed three Deep Space Nine episodes as well.
- This episode won an Emmy Award for “Outstanding Hairstyling for a Series”.
- One of only two Voyager episodes that Harry Kim does not appear – the other is “Blood Fever“.
- Carlos Carrasco plays Bahrat here. He was also D’Ghor on DS9’s “The House of Quark“, a Klingon in DS9’s “Shattered Mirror“, and Krole in DS9’s “Honor Among Thieves“.
- The first (televised) appearance of the Vulcan Ensign Vorik. The first time we’ve seen another Vulcan on Voyager besides Tuvok.
- Vorik was played by Alexander Enberg. He also played a reporter in TNG’s “Time’s Arrow Part II“, a different Vulcan named Taurik on TNG’s “Lower Decks“, and a Malon Engineer in Voyager’s “Juggernaut“.
- Enberg is the real life son of Voyager producer Jeri Taylor.
