Notes

• The second episode of Enterprise directed by James Conway.  The last episode he directed was the pilot, “Broken Bow“.
• The events of this episode are recalled in a few episodes in “Bounty“.
• The events of the episodes “Broken Bow” and “Sleeping Dogs” are mentioned here.
• There are numerous visual (and plot) references to Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.
• The planet the episode takes place on is Nurendra III – a planet of significance in the TNG episode “Yesterday’s Enterprise“.  This is not said on screen, however.
• The disease that Phlox mentions (Xenopolycythemia) is the same one contracted by Dr. McCoy in “For The World is Hollow and I have Touched the Sky“.
• There is a Klingon character here named Duras.  It is not the same Duras that existed (and was killed) during TNG’s time.  This Duras was an ancestor of the TNG variant.  Amusingly, this Duras is “Duras, son of Toral”. In TNG’s time, the future Duras had one son, also named Toral.
• Feelings expressed here by the Klingon Kolos are extremely similar to the kind expressed by T’Kuvma in the Star Trek Discovery pilot – “The Vulcan Hello“.
• Kolos is played by JG Hertzler.  While he’s had several roles over this era’s Star Trek episodes, he’s most known for Martok on Deep Space Nine.
• Orak is played by John Vickery. He was also Hagan in the TNG episode “Night Terrors“. He was also the Cardassian Rusot in three DS9 episodes: “The Changing Face of Evil“, “When it Rains…“, & “Tacking Into the Wind“.
• The Klingon magistrate was played by Granville Van Dusen.  He was also an Andorian general in the episode “Proving Ground“.
• Duras (son of Toral) was played by Daniel Riordan.  He will reprise the role in the episode “The Expanse“.  Riordan was also Rondon in TNG’s “Coming of Age” and an unnamed Bajoran deputy in DS9’s “Progress“.
