Notes

• The episode title is a Bible reference – Psalm 23:4.  It says (depending on translation).. “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.“
• Tilly does not appear in this episode.
• Pike’s condition in “The Menagerie” in TOS is referenced here – making the claim that Pike knew about his future before it actually happened to him.
• Likewise the accident that confines him to the wheelchair is depicted here.  It is expected this will be shown in Season 5 of Strange New Worlds, but as of the writing of this post, that has not aired yet.
• The thirteenth (of fourteen) appearances of Mary Chieffo as L’Rell.
• The third (of eighteen) appearances of Tig Notaro as Jett Reno.
• Speaking of that, it’s stated in this episode that Jett Reno is lesbian.
