Unification III

This Story: Season 3 Episode 7 (production code 307)
DSC Overall: Episode 36
Trek Overall: Story 718, Episode 762
Airdate: 26 Nov 2020
Written by Kirsten Beyer
Directed by Jon Dudkowski

Notes

  • A direct sequel to the two Star Trek: TNG episodes “Unification I” and “Unification II“, bringing to a conclusion the plot lines set in motion in those episodes.
  • The planet Vulcan is no longer called that in this time, it’s called Ni’Var.  This name was used previously as the name of a Vulcan ship in the Enterprise episode “Shadows of P’Jem“.
  • The last time (as of Oct 2026) we see Leonard Nimoy’s incarnation of Spock on screen – via archive footage here.
  • Also the only time that we have Ethan Peck & Leonard Nimoy’s incarnations of Spock in the same episode, although both via archive footage.
  • Due to the fact that Burnham was adopted by Sarek, she’s classified as a resident of Ni’Var.
  • Burnhams’ mother appears here, and it it said she belongs to a Romulan organization called the “Qowat Milat”.  This group had previously appeared in the Star Trek Picard episode “Absolute Candor”, which aired about 10 months before this episode in real time.
  • The fifth of six appearances by Sonja Sohn as Gabrielle Burnham.
  • The first of sixteen appearances by Tara Rosling as the Vulcan T’Rina.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Discovery Episode 36 - Unification IIIA sequel to the two similarly named TNG eps which showed Spock trying to unify the Romulans and Vulcans. It happened, and it the result is shown here. Burnham is looking to what caused the Burn and apparently the Vulcans have some

info on that, but don't want to share. We see Nimoy's Spock here again via archive footage. I did like the way they tied the legacy stuff into the current plot. In the end, this ep is mostly about Burnahm's motivations for continuing in Starfleet. There's a good B plot about Tilly being acting FO.
