All My Vinyl
Over the last few years on Twitter, I’d been doing daily tweets of albums, and songs. I loved the interactions, but then in early 2024 I was battling some health issues, so I stopped. But late in the summer I decided I wanted to start again, but I wanted to do something new.
In the spring of 2020, right at the start of Covid lockdowns, I decided to buy a record player for the first time since the early 80’s. I bought vinyl in the late 70’s through the mid 80’s somewhere (although I was heavily into cassettes there). I stopped there, and when I moved to Texas in 1992, I left my collection at home, and it sat in my mom’s basement (I’ll come back to that). In Texas I had a handful of pieces of vinyl from various record labels I acquired over time, but in the spring of 2020, I wanted to start playing vinyl – it was my reaction to lockdowns.
So I started acquiring vinyl again – picking up new copies of old favorites, and bands I liked releasing new stuff. Then in mid 2023, my brother told me that my old 80’s archive was still in our mom’s basement, so he shipped it down to me in late 2023, and I had my old collection back.
It’s this collection that I’ve decided to do something with. I took a suggestion from one of my followers on social media and decided to do them all alphabetical – but by the name of the album. That required me to load everything into a spreadsheet (no problem here, I love a good spreadsheet), and then sort by title – and BAM! Have a list of all of my vinyl (that seems random, but really isn’t). I started on 18 Aug 2024, and it’ll take most of a year to get through as I have slightly over 300 titles on vinyl – a mix of old stuff and new stuff.
This page is an index of all the posts. I will still post on social media about them, but I’m also creating blog entries here for them, as it’s been awhile since I’ve had regular content that isn’t one of my TV marathons.
