Suspicions

This Story: Season 6 Episode 22 (production code 248)
TNG Overall: Episode 148
Trek Overall: Story 242, Episode 250
Airdate: 10 May 1993
Written by Joe Menosky & Naren Shankar
Directed by Cliff Bole

Notes

  • An abandoned part of this script stating that warp drive was destroying the fabric of space was revived in the 7th season episode “Force of Nature“.
  • This story was supposed to feature Worf, but it was changed to Dr. Crusher as they felt Worf was overused in solo stories.
  • The last appearance of Guinan in the series.  The next time she appears is in “Star Trek: Generations”.  She does not leave the ship, the character is referenced, but just not shown.
  • Some footage from the fourth season episode “Final Mission” is used here.
  • The shield technology from this episode is used in “Descent Part II” to avoid the Borg.
  • Dr Selar is mentioned again, but still not seen (she was only ever in a single Season 2 episode).
  • The shuttle used in this episode was named “Justman”, presumably for Bob Justman one of the original series producers and an early TNG producer as well.
  • The Klingon (Kurak) is played by Tricia O’Neil.  She was in Next Generation previously, playing Capt. Rachel Garrett in “Yesterday’s Enterprise“.  She was up for the role of Kai Opaka on DS9, but did not get it.  She later on played the Cardassian “Korinas” in the DS9 episode “Defiant“.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek TNG Ep 148 - Suspicions - 10 May 1993 1/2 Beverly gets stripped of her medical license and is up for a court martial. Of course we know it won't end that way, but it's a path we don't see her on usually. She's in trouble because she betrayed orders to assist a Ferengi

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek TNG Ep 148 - Suspicions - 10 May 1993 2/2 scientist who developed a new kind of advanced shield. One of the scientists dies & Beverly gets into trouble over this. It ends up being a murder mystery, but you don't know that at start. Wish Crusher got more to do like this.
