Force of Nature

This Story: Season 7 Episode 9 (production code 261)
TNG Overall: Episode 161
Trek Overall: Story 253, Episode 263
Airdate: 15 Nov 1993
Written by Naren Shankar
Directed by Robert Lederman

Notes

  • The scenes with Data’s cat were added as the episode ran exceptionally short.
  • Additionally, the first episode where Data’s cat was referred to as a “she”, when it was a “he” prior to this.
  • The first episode to discuss a “speed limit” for warp ships.  It was rarely discussed afterwards.  There were two other TNG episodes that referred to it (“The Pegasus” & “Eye of the Beholder“).  I have a vague memory of some episode on other series saying tech advances did away with that, but I have no memory of what it was. When I eventually get to it, I’ll come back and edit this page.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek TNG Ep 161 - Force of Nature - 15 Nov 1993 2/2 is about Data's cat, which as a cat owner was funny - but not serious. In reading about this, most of the production team didn't care for this one. Not a particularly good episode, a LOT of talking. Ferengi here - who cares?
