Genesis

This Story: Season 7 Episode 19 (production code 271)
TNG Overall: Episode 171
Trek Overall: Story 263, Episode 273
Airdate: 21 Mar 1994
Written by Brannon Braga
Directed by Gates McFadden

Notes

  • The first episode directed by Gates McFadden, and I believe her only directing credit in anything.  It is also the first episode of Star Trek directed by a female cast member – won’t be the last.
  • The final appearance of Reginald Barclay in Next Generation (the series).
  • The nameplate in front of Troi’s quarters says “lieutenant commander”, despite her being promoted to commander a few episodes prior.
  • This episode won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Sound Mixing for a Drama Series.  It was also nominated for a makeup award, but did not win.
  • The Vulcan Dr. Selar is mentioned yet again, but still not seen beyond her initial appearance.
  • This episode establishes that there were 12 male cats on the ship, but did not state how many females.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek TNG Ep 171 - Genesis - 21 Mar 1994 2/2 first and only ep directed by Gates McFadden. If you don't overly analyze this one it can be fun, but yeah, not the best episode they've ever done. You saw the magic reset button coming miles away. Also some good "Spot" stuff. ha.
